The authors concluded that current trials evaluating the effectiveness of acupuncture in treatment of facial spasm are mostly poor in methodological high quality. These studies confirmed that acupuncture was superior to other treatments for facial spasm; nevertheless, in its meta-analysis, the research group could not draw an affirmative conclusion as to the benefits of acupuncture as a result of poor methodological quality and localized population of the included trials.
